20-21 August 2007, Santander, Spain
On 20-21 August 2007 the Club de Madrid in partnership with AccountAbility is organizing the high-level workshop “Energy and Democratic Leadership: Promoting Access to Energy for Poverty Reduction” in Santander, Spain. The workshop aims to develop a compelling set of recommendations for democratic leaders to improve energy access to the poor, while managing demands for energy security and the risk of climate change.
The workshop will feature leaders such as Mary Robinson, former President of Ireland; Sadig Al Mahdi, former Prime Minister of Sudan, and Jimmy Carter, former President of the United States; together with energy experts from energy companies, civil society organisations and international development institutions.
The partnership between the Club de Madrid and AccountAbility, builds on the Club’s political leverage - 66 former Presidents and Prime Ministers - and AccountAbility’s track record on collaborative governance for development. Over the next two years, the partnership will continue its work on promoting energy access to the poor through in-country activities in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
AccountAbility's Senior Advisor, Alejandro Litovsky leads this work and is the content coordinator for the Santander workshop.
