Alan Knight - Head Of Standards > London
Alan Knight is the Head of Standards at AccountAbility and joined AccountAbility in July 2005. He has responsibility for leading standards development, standards related research, standards outreach, standards related advisory services and training. Alan Knight has expertise in regulation and standards development and analysis, systems design and implementation, monitoring, evaluation and reporting systems, stakeholder engagement, and institutional capacity building. He has over 20 years experience with sustainability issues.
While at AccountAbility, he has overseen the development of the AA1000 Series of Standards, including the AA1000 Assurance Standard, the AA1000 AccountAbility Principles Standard, and the AA1000 Stakeholder Engagement Standard. He has also authored numerous research reports in the fields of reporting, assurance, and stakeholder engagement.
His career has included seven years with the Canadian Standards Association including roles with ISO and other international standards bodies, six years with ICF Consulting advising Fortune 500 corporations, government agencies and multi-lateral institutions on environmental and corporate responsibility issues, and four years as the Country Director in Nigeria for a large UK based development NGO. Alan has worked with many major international corporations in the utility, manufacturing, oil and gas, aeronautics, chemical, and pulp and paper and financial sectors, and has written extensively on a range of standards related and sustainability subjects. He has been a member of numerous advisory and technical committees related to management systems, auditing, performance evaluation and reporting. He has worked in many countries in Europe, Africa, Asia, and North and South America.
Over the years he has been a member of numerous committees, councils and boards. These currently include the Vodafone Group Sustainability Advisory Panel, the ACCA Social and Environment Committee, and the Transparency International Steering Committee for the Business Principles for Countering Bribery.
Alan Knight is a certified Environmental Auditor, and has a PhD from the University of Alberta.
