Dr. Hans W. Decker

Dr. Hans W. Decker is an adjunct Professor of International and Public Affairs in International Finance and Business at Columbia University, New York.

Dr. Decker’s teaching and research interests include sustainability and corporate responsibility, global corporate strategies, governance systems, business organisations, comparative political economy, Western Europe and the European Union.

He was the Vice Chair (1991–1993) and President and CEO (1971–1990) of the Siemens Corporation USA, based in New York.  Prior to that, he served at Siemens Corporation’s Central Finance Division, Munich (1970) and at the Legal Department (1958–1969).

Dr. Decker received his law degree from the University of Heidelberg (1953), passed the German Bar Exam (1957), and holds a Doctorate of Law (1958).  He is the President of the Heidelberg University Association.

He currently serves on the Board of Governors of the New School University (New York) and on the board of International House (New York) and the European Institute (Washington, D.C.).  He is also a board member at the Education Development Center (Boston).

Mr. Abdallah S. Jum'ah

Mr. Abdallah S. Jum’ah is the Chairman of the Saudi Arabian Investment Bank (SAIB). Previously, he was President and Chief Executive Officer of the Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Saudi Aramco), the world’s largest oil company, from November 1995 to December 31, 2008 and brings in-depth knowledge of the national and global oil industry.

Mr. Jum’ah studied at the American University in Cairo (AUC), the American University of Beirut and completed the Harvard Business School Program for Management Development.

Mr. Jum’ah served on Saudi Aramco’s Board of Directors and on the Saudi Arabian Supreme Council of Petroleum and Mineral Affairs. He is a member of the Supreme Committee for King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST). During his tenure at Saudi Aramco he was director of Aramco Services Company (USA), Saudi Refining, Inc. (USA), Saudi Petroleum International, Inc. (USA), Motiva Enterprises (USA), S-Oil Corporation (Korea), Petron Corporation (Philippines), Motor Oil (Hellas) Corinth Refineries S.A. (Greece) and Chairman of Vela International Marine Ltd.

In 2003 Mr. Jum’ah was identified by Fortune Magazine as one of the most influential business people in the world and in 2005 he was selected as winner of the prestigious Petroleum Executive of the Year Award. Mr. Jum’ah was awarded an honorary doctorate by Hankuk University, Seoul in April 2007.

Mr. Jum’ah has served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the American University in Cairo (AUC) since 1998 and has been a member of the Halliburton Company board since July 2010.

From 2007 to 2009 he served as Vice Chairman of the International Advisory Board of King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM). His worldwide business affiliations include his former memberships of JPMorgan Chase International Council, Schlumberger Business Consulting Advisory Board and the Reliance International Advisory Board. Mr. Jum’ah is also a former member of the International Business Council of the World Economic Forum and in January 2005 he was appointed energy community leader by the World Economic Forum. He was Patron of the IFP School, Paris for the school year 2008-2009.

Most recently Mr. Jum’ah has been appointed as a member of Saudi Arabia’s Supreme Economic Council’s Advisory Committee. He is the Chairman of the Board of Saudi Investment Bank and a member of Zamil Industries Board of Directors and theSaudi Economic Cities Board of Directors.

Mr. Jum’ah is known for his innovative approach to business and his strong interest in developing leaders.

Mr. John A. Fraser (Emeritus)

John Fraser is Chairman of UBS Global Asset Management. He was Chairman and CEO of UBS Global Asset Management from December 2001 until December 2013. He is Chairman of UBS Saudi Arabia and UBS Grocon Real Estate. He is also a Board Member of UBS O’Connor Funds.

Prior to joining UBS and its predecessor organisations in 1993, John served for over twenty years with the Australian Treasury including appointment as Deputy Secretary (Economic) from 1990 – 1993 and postings at the International Monetary Fund (1978 – 1980) and as Minister (Economic) at the Australian Embassy in Washington DC (1985 – 1988).

John graduated from Monash University, Melbourne, in 1972, with a first-class honours degree in economics and, in 2013, was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Laws.   He was awarded a Centenary Medal by the Commonwealth Government in 2001 for service to Australian society through business and economics.  He was born in 1951 and is both an Australian and a British citizen.

John has been Chairman of Victorian Funds Management Corporation since 2009.

He is Deputy Chairman of the Monash-Warwick University Alliance Circle, a member of the MSCI Editorial Advisory Board and a member of the Investment Advisory Board of Fedesa SAM (Monaco).

In 1996, John was a member of the Australian Government’s Audit Commission into public sector finances.  John was also a Board Member and member of the Audit Committee of the Australian Stock Exchange (1997 – 2003) and a Governor of Marymount International School at Kingston-upon-Thames in the United Kingdom (2007 – 2012).

He has been resident in London since early 2002.

Mr. Mthunzi Mdwaba

Mr. Mthunzi Mdwaba was Chief Executive Officer of Torque Holdings (Proprietary) Limited, and Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Kelly Group, listed on the JSE.

Mr. Mdwaba was recently re-elected as one of the Vice Presidents at Unisectoral-Business Unity South Africa (BUSA), responsible for the Americas, and led the Business delegation into the UK as part of President Zuma’s party. He also led the discussions at the BRIC/IBSA in Brazil before SA was invited to join the BRIC countries.

Mr. Mdwaba was appointed a Governing Body member of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) in 2009 and served as advisor to the President of the International Organisation for Employers (IOE). In June of 2011, he was re-elected to the Governing Body representing business in the Southern African Development Community and participates in formulating policies that influence the world of work.

He has also been appointed to sit on the Board of the ILO training centre based in Turin and sits on the ILO Multinational Enterprise (MNE) Ad Hoc Committee in Geneva, Switzerland. He was appointed to lead the discussion on the Labour Administration and Inspectorate for Employers for the whole world at the June ILO Conference and was successfully completed and adopted by all Member States of the ILO.

Mr. Mdwaba has in the past served as Chairman of the BITF (Black Information Technology Forum), Chairman of the Transformation Policy (Transpol) at BUSA, Chairman of the Board of Directors at Young & Rubicam (Y&R), Non-Executive Chairman of Lithalelanga Technologies, a Director of M Squared Consulting and Collabrus (based in San Francisco, California) as well as a director of the Innovation Hub. In 2008, Mr. Mdwaba also consulted to Nestle SA and assisted with their transformation journey, resulting in the adoption and committal by over 40 Executives of a programme, named “Vision 2010.”

He was a participant in drafting the ICT Charter as part of South Africa’s Black Economic Empowerment Policies (known as BEE), which has recently been gazetted as a Code of Good Practice, and was IT Personality of the Year 2004, awarded by the Computer Society of South Africa (CSSA).

Currently Mr. Mdwaba, in addition to being the Vice President of BUSA stands as President of the Confederation of Black Business Organisations (CBBO), Non-Executive Director and Shareholder of Ninam Properties, Non-Executive Director and shareholder of Media Edge and Nota Bene, Non-Executive Director and shareholder of Storage Technologies Services (Pty) Ltd as well as Non-Executive Chairman and Shareholder of Arbez Investment Holdings.

Mr. Mdwaba holds a BA, LLB at the University of the Witwatersrand.

In 2009, Mr. Mdwaba was awarded BBQ Businessman of the year Award as well as overall Platinum Businessman of the Year and Topco Black Businessman of the year by the Metropolitan Oliver Empowerment Award.

Mr. Robert H. Herz

Mr. Robert H. Herz served as Chairman of the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) from July 2002 to September 2010. Previously, he was a senior partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Mr. Herz’s current activities include serving on the boards of directors and various board committees of Fannie Mae, Morgan Stanley (Chairman of Audit Committee), Workiva Inc., itBit Trust Company, and the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board, on the advisory boards of AccountAbility and the Manchester Business School in England, as an Ambassador for the International Integrated Reporting Council, and as a member of the Audit Committee Chair Advisory Council of the National Association of Corporate Directors.  He is also an executive in residence and member of the faculty of the Columbia Business School and serves on the Standing Advisory Group of the U.S. Public Company Accounting Oversight Board, the Financial Reporting Faculty Advisory Group of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, and the Accounting Standards Oversight Council of Canada. Mr. Herz also provides consulting services on financial reporting and other matters through Robert H. Herz LLC, of which he is President.

Previously, Robert Herz was Chairman of the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) from 2002 to 2010. He was also one of the original members of the International Accounting Standards Board. He was a partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers for many years, including serving as audit partner on numerous major companies, as head of the firm’s Corporate Finance Advisory Services, as senior technical partner, as member of the firm’s U.S. and Global Boards, and as President of the Coopers & Lybrand and PricewaterhouseCoopers foundations. He has chaired a number of professional committees, including the IFAC Transnational Auditors Committee and the AICPA SEC Regulations Committee, has served on numerous public policy commissions, and testified many times at Congressional hearings. He was also previously a Trustee and Vice Chair of the Kessler Foundation. Mr. Herz has authored or coauthored 6 books and over 50 articles and published papers and is a frequent speaker at major financial reporting and business conferences.   He is a member of the Accounting Hall of Fame.

Ms. Carol Atwood

Ms. Carol Atwood is a successful entrepreneur who is actively involved in creating, investing in, and participating in socially focused ventures for the purpose of leveraging business, finance and media to effect social change. She is a recipient of many awards, including “NYC Entrepreneur of the Year” award, which was sponsored by NASDAQ, Kaufmann Foundation, and Ernst and Young.

Ms. Atwood is currently on the board of the Calvert Foundation, serving as Chair of the Advancement Committee. Calvert Foundation’s goal is to maximise the flow of lending capital to disadvantaged communities in order to foster a more equitable and sustainable society, including support for sustainable enterprise in all parts of the globe. The Calvert Foundation’s total loan disbursements over the life of the fund surpass well over one billion dollars that deliver a social and financial return to investors. Over the past 15 years the Calvert Foundation has financed 20,000 homes, 495,000 microenterprise jobs, 34,000 U.S. jobs and 26,000 nonprofits while maintaining a 98.8% repayment rate from borrowers and a 100% repayment rate to investors.

Ms. Atwood holds a number of other significant positions and distinctions.  They include:

  • Member of the board of Community Investment Partners (CIP).  CIP currently manages, among other separately managed accounts, the Communities at Work Fund, a loan fund exceeding $100 million dedicated to creating jobs in under-served communities within the U.S.
  • Chair of King Arthur Flour (KAF). KAF is the second largest branded flour company in the U.S., and was an early adopter of the “b corporation” principles.
  • Founding board member and angel investor of IW Financial, a web-based application that empowers advisors and money managers to identify ESG criteria.
  • Advisory board member of CSR Wire, the leading source of corporate responsibility and sustainability press releases, reports and news.
  • US advisory board member of the New Paradigm Fund, which serves as fiscal sponsor for the Ubuntu Institute in South Africa led by Nelson Mandela’s grandson, Prince Cedza Dlamini.
  • Former board member and co-chair of the sustainability committee for Social Venture Network (SVN), a nonprofit network committed to building a just and sustainable world through business. Ms. Atwood served on the steering committee of Harvard Kennedy School’s Initiative for Responsible Investing (formerly housed at Boston College).
  • Member of the Impact and Messaging Committee of the Social Investment Forum, and long-time partner and previous board member of Social Venture Partners. She also formerly owned and operated TMG Solutions, an international marketing company that developed programs for Fortune 500 companies.  In 1997, TMG was named Company of the Year by the National Association of Small Business Investment Companies and ranked among the top 100 women-owned businesses by Working Woman magazine.

Sir Mark Moody-Stuart

Sir Mark Moody-Stuart is Chairman of Hermes Equity Ownership Services, a director of Accenture and of Saudi Aramco. He was Chairman of the Royal Dutch/Shell Group from 1998 to 2001. He was Chairman of Anglo American plc from 2002 to 2009.

Born in Antigua, Sir Mark received his doctorate in geology in 1966 at Cambridge University and worked for Royal Dutch/Shell starting as an exploration geologist, living in Holland, Spain, Oman, Brunei, Australia, Nigeria, Turkey, Malaysia, and the UK.

Sir Mark is Chairman of the Innovative Vector Control Consortium for combating insect borne disease and was Chairman of the Global Business Coalition for HIV/AIDS from 2002-2011. He was a director of HSBC from 2001-2010 and of the International Institute for Sustainable Development.

Sir Mark serves on the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (2003-2011). He chaired task forces on renewable energy for the G8 and for business for the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg.

Sir Mark was a Board Member of the Global Reporting Initiative from 2002-2007 and President of Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine 1997-2008. He was a member of the UN Secretary General’s Advisory Council for the Global Compact from 2001-2004 and is Vice-Chairman of the Global Compact Board and Chairman of the Global Compact Foundation from 2006.

Sunil (Sunny) A. Misser is the Chief Executive Officer of AccountAbility.

Prior to joining AccountAbility, Mr. Misser was Global Managing Partner of the Sustainability Advisory Business at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). Before that, he was Global Strategy Leader for PwC’s Assurance and Business Advisory Services — the firm’s accounting, risk management, and consulting operation. He also served as the New York Metro leader for the Governance, Risk and Compliance practice. During his career, Mr. Misser has been a strategic business advisor to CEOs and senior executives at Fortune 500 companies and multi-lateral organizations (MLOs).

Mr. Misser has extensive experience working with global clients, developing and implementing solutions in the areas of strategy, structure, process, people, and systems; improving the efficiency and effectiveness of global value chains; designing and implementing enterprise-wide performance improvement solutions; and managing complex business transformations. His clients have included: Abbott Laboratories, Merck, Pfizer, Nestle, Anheuser Busch, UBS, Citigroup, ING, Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority, ConocoPhillips, Cinergy Duke, Saudi Aramco, Kodak, Seagram, Microsoft, Mobily, Walmart, Zain, National Institute of Standards and Technology, World Economic Forum, and The United Nations.

Previously, Mr. Misser worked in industry in operations and advanced manufacturing with Mars, Inc. and Honeywell. He holds an M.S. in Management from the MIT/Sloan School of Management with a concentration in International Business and Technology. He also has an M.S. in Industrial Engineering from Lehigh University and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from M.S. University. Mr. Misser served on the advisory board of E-Business at MIT/Sloan and the advisory board for Innovation and Corporate Responsibility at MIT/Sloan. In addition, he has served as an advisor on the strategy and consulting track at the MIT Sloan School of Management. Mr. Misser currently serves on the advisory board of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Lehigh University. During his career at PwC, Mr. Misser led a team that published the book: Corporate Responsibility – Strategy, Management and Value. He is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and is often quoted in media such as Fortune, Financial Times, The Economist, New York Times, New York Stock Exchange Quarterly, Forbes, Dow Jones Interactive, Global Finance and Internal Auditor’s Magazine.

Doug Hawkins

Mr. Hawkins has spent half of his career as a private sector leader, successfully developing corporate responsibility platforms for Fortune 100 countries, but also has equally impressive experience working as an international civil servant within the United Nations system for more than a decade.    Before joining Medolac, Mr. Hawkins was a global Vice President tasked with supporting Pfizer Consumer Diversified Businesses, valued at $11.85 billion, recently sold to Nestle. As a member of the Pfizer Nutrition executive management team, he managed staff around the world responsible for high-visibility global market access, preservation and expansion strategies, including public and government affairs, crisis communications, corporate responsibility and the development of partnerships in key markets such as China, Thailand, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Mexico and Colombia. While at Pfizer, he championed ground-breaking third party corporate compliance/performance monitoring systems to verify responsible marketing and business practices.

Prior to joining Pfizer, he was Director, International Trade Relations for Wyeth Biopharma and managed the company’s relationships with US and foreign governments as well as the World Health Organization, World Trade Organization and other multilateral agencies. He previously worked for a domain name technology start-up funded by EDS ventures, and has a decade of global experience at the United Nations agency, The World Intellectual Property Organization in Geneva Switzerland, where he was responsible for treaty operations and multilateral relations development with users of the treaty from over 140 countries. He has served on several international boards, including chair of the pharmaceutical association, PhRMA, International Organization Issues Committee, and published on the subject of innovation, corporate responsibility,  international patent systems and access. Mr. Hawkins holds a Master of Science degree, with commendation, in the area of International Policy and Comparative Development from the University of Bristol in the United Kingdom.

David Pritchett

David Pritchett is the Head of Europe at AccountAbility. He is responsible for developing relevant and practical research and thought leadership on the sustainability themes that our clients are faced with.

Based in our Zurich office, David is an experienced sustainability consultant, project manager and economist. David has worked extensively with companies from SME’s to MNC’s in the Financial Services, Industrial Products & Chemicals, Pharmaceuticals & Life Sciences and Retail & Consumer Goods business sectors. He works with his clients to create and capture long term business value primarily in the field of stakeholder engagement programs, materiality determination approaches, strategy and governance in corporate responsibility and benchmarking and analysis of sustainability performance.

Further, David has a solid experience in working with a broad range of sustainability-related Standards both in an advisory and assurance provider capacity.

Prior to joining AccountAbility, David worked for 12 years for PwC’s Sustainability & Climate Change Practice.

David has an international working and academic background having graduated with a Bachelors degree from Middlesex University in European Economics and a Masters degree from the University of Geneva in Business Management.

Navi Brar

Navi Brar is Head of Advisory, Middle East & Africa at AccountAbility. Navi is an experienced corporate social responsibility and sustainability strategist in the areas of stakeholder engagement, materiality analysis, sustainability reporting, impact assessment, program design, and community investment. His experience spans the corporate, non-profit and public sectors. His clients have included McDonalds, Walmart, Saudi Aramco, National Associate of Real Estate Investment Trusts (NAREIT), Saudi Industrial Property Authority (MODON), King Khalid Foundation, Stuart Olson, TD Bank Group, Farm Credit Canada, Aura Minerals, Export Development Canada, Westport Innovations and Agrium.

Prior to joining AccountAbility, Navi worked as a Senior Specialist in the CSR Division of the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC), a government Crown Corp based in Vancouver, Canada. Navi has extensive experience in consulting domain, having worked in an Advisor capacity at Canadian Business for Social Responsibility (CBSR). CBSR is the preeminent CSR organization in Canada, responsible for accelerating social innovation and adaption of sustainability among Canada’s leading corporations. In this role, Navi managed consulting engagements with leading Canadian companies. Navi has also held a Managing Director position at a media publication company in Vancouver.

Navi attended the University of Nottingham on an International Centre for Corporate Social Responsibility (ICCSR) scholarship and graduated, with Merit, with a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A) degree, specialized in Corporate Social Responsibility. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Political Science from the University of British Columbia and a certification in Business Analytics from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

In his extra-curricular time, Navi has served as the President of a Net Impact professional chapter and as a Social Innovation Engagement and Partnership Leader with Ashoka Canada in British Columbia. In this role, Navi served on the shortlisting committee for the BC Ideas Changemakers Campaign – evaluating the impact, ingenuity and financial sustainability of social ventures in order to recommend investment and funding decisions.

Claire is a Director at AccountAbility, and is responsible for global operations across the organisation, taking the lead on HR, legal, and governance matters.

With over twenty years of operational and managerial experience, Claire has experience within the financial, hospitality, tourism and pharmaceutical industries. Having joined AccountAbility in May 2002, becoming a Director in April 2009. Claire has seen AccountAbility develop tremendously over the years, helping guide the organization through its international growth and expansion of its service offerings.

Claire is a member of the Institute of Directors and a qualified member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development.

Jon is the Financial Controller at AccountAbility and responsible for managing finance, accounting, tax, audit, reporting and banking for the company.

Jon joined AccountAbility in April 2011 and brings over 10 years of corporate finance and strategic planning experience in the professional services, publishing, financial services and software industries.

Prior to joining AccountAbility, Jon was the Director of Finance at SourceMedia, a business to business publishing company that specializes in the financial services industry. Jon holds a B.A. in Economics from the University of Rochester and an M.B.A in Finance from the Zicklin School of Business at Baruch College.

Outside of the office, Jon loves all sports, particularly basketball. He also likes to spend time in the outdoors, traveling and reading.

Udaya Nanayakkara

Udaya is responsible for the development and promotion of the AA series of standards. Based in our London office, he is a sustainability professional with over ten years of international experience across manufacturing, technology, financial services, and consulting industries. Having a keen interest in sustainability standards, Udaya has contributed to a number of globally significant steering committees, working groups and multi-stakeholder forums on corporate accountability.

Prior to joining AccountAbility, Udaya consulted on developing solutions for compliance and transparency challenges in multinational supply chains for global brands and retailers, including Sainsbury’s, Morrisons and Next. He has been part of numerous external funding driven development projects on socio-economic innovation in emerging markets, such as UpSkill, a UKAID/ Govt’s Department for International Development (DfID) funded ethical compliance e-learning platform for Bangladeshi garment factories. He has worked collaboratively with renowned research bodies including University of Greenwich’s National Resource Institute (NRI) and the Stockholm Environmental Institute (SEI) at the University of York to create and deliver shared value-driven impact assessments for public reporting.

Starting his career in human resource development in Sri Lanka, Udaya is a firm believer in holistic performance management integrating financial and sustainability data. He was part of the team that introduced Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) reporting to Sri Lanka’s flagship telecommunications provider and South Asia’s first quadruple player, Dialog Axiata.

Udaya is certified in ISO31000 Application of Risk to Management Systems by BSI and in Social Systems Lead Auditing by SGS UK. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development (CIPD, UK) and holds an MBA in Corporate Social Responsibility from the International Centre for Corporate Social Responsibility (ICCSR) at University of Nottingham. He also has an MA in Human Resource Management from University of Leeds, UK and a BA in Psychology from Bangalore University, India.
