AccountAbility releases the results of the Stakeholder Engagement Survey for UK Rail Companies via Webinar

On December 15th, AccountAbility released the findings from an in-depth Survey on Stakeholder Engagement Practices and Trends in the UK Rail sector. The findings were presented during a dedicated webinar to the 29 network organisations invited. AccountAbility’s Global Head of Research and European Services, David Pritchett, facilitated an overview of the outcomes of the survey, alignment with the AA1000 Stakeholder Engagement Standard, together with examples of leading practices in Stakeholder Engagement both from within and outside the sector.

The survey explored organisations’ maturity in managing and reporting on stakeholder engagement in the sector, identified primary business drivers for engagement action, and summarised the internal architecture guiding organisations’ efforts. Furthermore, the survey explored current challenges and hurdles that rail companies are faced with in their efforts to continuously improve stakeholder engagement practices and performance.

Using the AA1000SES as a guiding framework, rail sector organisations would benefit from a leading global standard in developing and structuring an effective Stakeholder Engagement approach that builds on a credible strategy, robust governance and relevant internal implementation guidelines to support a consistent and quality stakeholder engagement methodology.

The webinar finished with a lively Q&A session where rail sector organisations were able to express their challenges, concerns and offer relevant case examples of successful engagement. AccountAbility’s David Pritchett summarised his views: “I perceive a lot of current activity, notable towards customers, and many positive examples of engagement initiatives within the sector, however, I feel that the majority of organisations have not formed a clear and broad strategic intent around their stakeholder engagement and do not yet realise and integrate a lot of the potential value that they could capture from their diverse activities.”

This webinar forms part of a series of activities to address sector-specific issues in Stakeholder Engagement and to promote the use of the AA1000 Series of Standards.
