AccountAbility’s Amer Hawary Wins Bronze Medal At The International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation Tournament in Las Vegas

Amer Hawary takes third place amongst one thousand competitors in the tournament

On Friday, November 12th, 2021, Amer Hawary, an Accountant in AccountAbility’s Finance & Accounting team, took third place amongst one thousand competitors in the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation Tournament (IBJJF) at Jiu-Jitsu Con International in Las Vegas, with twenty-four competitors in his weight bracket.

Amer has been an avid practitioner of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) since 2017, when he began training with New York City's Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training center on Staten Island.  Amer has competed in more than ten international tournaments, having also won third place at the New York Open in 2018. While still at school, Amer practiced karate and trained as a boxer. He sees his interest in BJJ training as a natural progression through his lifelong interest in combat sports.

“Jiu-Jitsu is a discipline that empowers the more strategic, responsive, and quick-witted ‘little guy’ to defeat larger and sometimes stronger combatants by using leverage and weight distribution strategies, holds, and submissions. You could say that my training and lifestyle inform my business philosophy, and my ability to serve AccountAbility – an ‘underdog’ ESG consulting firm that depends on its agility, speed, and thinking to win business and international accolades in competition with the larger, more established, global consulting monoliths,” Amer reflected.

At AccountAbility, Amer handles the firm’s F&A activities, including invoicing, reconciliation/collections, expenses, and contract management – all of which are fundamental to the firm’s ability to operate and serve clients effectively on a daily basis, and will be critical to the firm’s projected growth in the years ahead.

“We are extremely proud of Amer’s achievements, which reflect years of disciplinefocus, and hard work,” said AccountAbility CEO, Sunny Misser. “Amer applies the same dedication to his profession every day and embodies the values that we strive for at AccountAbility – humility, perseverance, and excellence. We are fortunate to have Amer on the AA team.”

Amer works at AccountAbility's New York offices and currently trains at the Glory Martial Arts Center in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, New York. He previously worked for Cicero & LoVerde, CPAs on Staten Island, New York as an accounting intern.  He received a BS in Accounting & Finance from the City University of New York.
